Visitor Info For Fife in Scotland

Fife is situated in East Scotland on a peninsula, sharing boundaries with North Sea in the east, Firth of Tay in the north and Firth of Forth in south. Its western border is partially eclipsed behind many of Ochill hills. While going to and fro in Fife, visitors have to cross three bridges except for traffic heading north on M90 road. Toll taxes on Forth and Tay bridges were abolished from 11 February 2008.

West Lomond is the apex point of Fife at 522 m or 1713 ft with many extinct volcanoes situated all over Fife. Its coastline has many marvelous, but small ports entertaining its customers with fishing and industrial goods. A scenic and flat area lies north of Lomond Hills with the River Eden flowing through it. All this area is called Howe of Fife.

Many small towns and tiny villages can be found on northern side of Lomond Hills, which basically is an agriculture landscape. Western and Southern of Fife has light industries, but is heavily populated. Heavy industry is there, but only at Rosyth, which is around naval dockyard.

In eastern corner, known as East Neuk in Scotland, small settlements around harbors have come up in a stone built architecture. This area was much sought after thirty years before, when professional classes build their houses in Edinburgh. These days fishing industry has shifted from here to Pittenweem and Anstruther harbor is used as a pleasure craft marina.

Many historical museums, Castles and palaces are there to be seen with many modern gardens, parks, forests and bridges. Some of them like Balmerino Abbey, Dunfermline Abbey, Fife Folk Museum, Falkland Palace, Dogton Sone, Lomond Hills, Tentsmuir Forest, St Andrews Botanic Gardens, Scotstarvit Tower, Scottish Fisheries Museum, Tay Road Bridge, Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery and many more are seen to be believed.

Europe s most popular sport, Football is played along with Rugby, Hockey and Athletics. Most of the Football clubs are based in their respective cities.Cowdenbeath Senior Football Club is situated at Cowdenbeath, as such Dunfermline Athletic F.C., Senior football club in Dunfermline, Glenrothes Rugby Union club is in Glenrothes, Fife Southern RFC, Rugby Union club in Rosyth, the UK s oldest ice hockey club Fife Flyers, the only senior Shinty club in Fife, Aberdour Shinty Club, St Andrews University Football Club, St Andrews University Hockey Club, Madras College Former Pupil s Hockey Club and some more also exist in Fife. These are not great professional clubs, but still manage to play and compete with each other.

Many local newspapers and other papers are published for the Fife inhabitants

North East Fife is published by D.C. Thompsons and Fife Editions of the Dundee Courier. The Counties Edition of the Evening Telegraph is also distributed and on sale in Fife.

Some of the locally published newspapers include East Fife Mail, Fife Herald and Post is published from Dunfirmline, St Andrews Citizen, Glenrothes Gazette, Fife Leader, Fife Free Press and Fife Herald that is published in Cupar. A local radio station, Kingdom FM, does go on air which has two competitors such as Dundees Radio Tay and Edinburghs Forth FM.

The BBC News covers all the world, but it covers Scotland in a special way as it is a part of the United Kingdom as a whole. The Scotland country also has its very own TV Station called Reporting Scotland, which most of the time is concerned about regional news that happen and deals with its news and issues.
