Southern Ireland Destinationsmap of Ireland

Southern Ireland (Eire) is not part of the UK as Northern Ireland is, but both are located on the same island and if not for history would be one whole country.

Situated at the mouth of the river Liffey, the capital of Southern Ireland is the cosmopolitan city of Dublin. One of the fastest growing cities of Europe, Dublin is popular among tourists for it's nightlife and culture. Many famous literary figures came from Dublin including: William Butler Yeats, James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw, Jonathan Swift, Samuel Beckett, Oscar Wilde,  Brendan Behan, Maeve Binchy and the creator of Dracula, Bram Stoker.

The nightlife is buzzing with so many pubs and live venues that Dublin has become popular for hen nights and stag parties from the UK. Famous bands that have emerged from Dublin include: Boyzone, Hothouse Flowers, Horslips, The Boomtown Rats, Thin Lizzy and the fabulous U2.
