Plenty to Do in Dundee
Dundee is a city based in Scotland and is commonly recognised
as 'the city of discovery' due to its rich scientific heritage.
It is the fourth largest city within the country and has very
large industries in digital entertainment. Dundee is also the
central regional point where most education and employment
institutions are based as many people from outside areas such
as Angus and Fife, commute daily to the city. In recent years,
Dundee has been redeveloped with the introduction of new modern
buildings and contemporary architecture.
As Dundee is a harbour, the city has an excellent seaside,
Broughty Ferry, open to all visitors all year round. Here you
will find many buildings from the 15th century which were once
built by local fisherman who would build their own homes to be
close to the port. There are regular trains available for all
visitors to explore the area as not only are there beautiful
waterfront views, there are also a wide range of boutiques and
local shops on surrounding streets.
For a historical guide to the city, visitors can go to McManus
Galleries and Museum to find out more about the foundations of
Dundee. The building is an amazing sight within itself as its
architecture reflects a gothic revival style of work. There are
many galleries displaying Dundee’s local heritage alongside
collections of natural history. Regular tours are held within
the museum and there is no charge to enter the building.
If you are interested in discovering more about wildlife and
nature then Camperdown Wildlife Centre is definitely worth a
visit. A wide range of animals can be found inhabiting the
place including European Otters which can be watched through
spy cameras so that you have the chance observe them in their
surroundings. Also located at the Campervan Wildlife Centre are
Lemurs, all of which are black and white in colour and
extremely rare to find. Visitors can view the lemurs playing
amongst the rope swings performing their usual acrobats.
For shopping you can visit Overgate Shopping Centre, an indoor
shopping facility housing many popular retail stores including
Debenhams, New Look, Argos, Next, Primark, Sportsworld, Mango,
La Senza, Ernest Jones, French Connection, T Mobile, Superdrug,
Bodycare, Boots, Bank and many more exciting brands. Overgate
Shopping Centre is open every day of the week however opening
and closing times may vary according to the day.
Another great place to visit if you are looking for
entertainment is Dundee Contemporary Arts where you can view
brilliant exhibitions, watch films on the big screen, go
shopping or simply take a seat and enjoy a meal. It is the
premier destination in Dundee for contemporary arts and
culture. Also available, are courses and workshops for people
that would like to join the class where professionals work
closely with beginners to enhance their art and design skills.
To accompany this is a Print Studio where learners are able to
print designs with the latest machines and equipment available.
There are also a variety of resources for anyone who is
interested in DVD production.
