The county of Dorset is in the South West of England on the channel coast. Although largely a rural area, you
will find several holiday resorts in dorset including Bournemouth, Poole, Weymouth, Swanage, and Lyme
Regis.
Other Dorset attractions include: Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, the hill forts of Maiden Castle and Hod
Hill, Abbotsbury Castle and sub tropical gardens, Wareham forest, Sherborne Castle, Portland castle and sculpture
park.
Many famous people have lived in Dorset including Thomas Hardy, Ian Fleming, Douglas Adams and the inventor of
the World Wide Web Tim Berners Lee, who lived in Colehill near Wimborne.
I went on a family holiday to Bournemouth for a week a few years ago and my memories are of a relaxing time
spent on the lovely golden sands. You can learn more about Bournemouth and other Dorset resorts in the articles
below and check out the free downloadable Bournemouth travel guide.
