Aberdeen
Aberdeen is the city with the third largest population in Scotland. Famous for it's beautiful gardens, parks and
natural surroundings Aberdeen has won the Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom Best City award so
many times that the city was banned from the competition to give other cities a chance.

Aberdeen has several nicknames which include the Granite City and the Silver City with the Golden Sands. The
Granite City because for 200 years until the mid 1900s the buildings in Aberdeen were built using locally quarried
grey granite which held mica deposits with a silvery sparkle. Hence the silver city and golden sands describes
Aberdeens long sandy coastline. Aberdeen also has the nicknames the Oil Capital of Europe and the Energy
Capital of Europe because of the proximity of North Sea Oil.
